We're celebrating International Tempranillo Day in fine style with a family-style dinner featuring Southern Oregon's warmer-climate varietals (ie: you won't find Pinot noir at this dinner). Abacela teams up with Kriselle Cellars, paired with Enoteca Nostrana's award-winning cuisine for an evening to remember.

Enoteca Nostrana is a new wine bar opened in April 2018, directly next door to Nostrana, Cathy Whims' and David West’s Italian gem located in Southeast Portland. Heralded as one of Portland's best restaurants since opening in 2005, Nostrana has received myriad accolades for its soulful regional Italian cuisine rooted in the Pacific Northwest, as well as recognition for its stellar wine program. It's with great enthusiasm that we present this exciting evolution of our offerings with an emphasis on wine.

Chef Devon Chase

Chef Devon Chase has worked for Chef/Owner Cathy Whims at all of her restaurants: Nostrana, Oven and Shaker and Hamlet. Devon creates the highly regarded bar menu for Enoteca Nostrana, as well as the family-style offerings for our Private Dining menus.

Abacela is a world-class, multi-award winning winery and viticulture success story. But in 1995 when founders Earl and Hilda Jones planted its first vines they had no way of knowing what the outcome would be. They were scientists with zero winemaking experience who left secure careers and trekked 2,700 miles west, kids in tow, to test a hypothesis.

Abacela was an experiment they hoped would answer a question that had puzzled them for years: Why doesn't America produce any fine varietal Tempranillo wine?

 

Earl and Hilda probably weren't the first enophiles to wonder why the great grape of Spain's famous Rioja wines was mysteriously absent from American fine wine. However they were the first to approach the question with scientific rigor, form a hypothesis, then devote their lives to testing it.

 

This is the story of how one ordinary family's curiosity and determination transformed their lives, built one of Oregon's best-loved wineries and influenced winegrowing not only in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest but across America.

Kriselle Cellars

Roseburg, OR

 

Kriselle Cellars is a unique winery located in the heart of southern Oregon’s scenic Rogue Valley. Currently, Kriselle Cellars produces approximately 4,000 cases of Oregon red and white varietals from grapes grown on Buxton Ranch, as well as purchased from other local vineyards.

 

All of our wines are crafted from southern Oregon grapes and we are proud members of the local community. Our production will continue to grow as we expand our family vineyards and we look forward to sharing our passion with our customers.

 

Kriselle Cellars wines are produced and bottled at our family ranch in a 5,000 square foot winery building located near the Rogue River. Kriselle’s facility is complete with a traditional processing room, as well as a temperature and humidity-controlled barrel room. All of our grapes are harvested by hand at the peak of ripeness, fermented in temperature-controlled fermentation tanks and then aged in oak barrels.

 

We focus our attention on varieties that do well in southern Oregon’s warm summers — Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Tempranillo. Our wines are made in a style that emphasizes varietal character of the fruit augmented by subtle oak, vanilla, and dried berry flavors from oak barrel aging.
