In the past, we've presented Winemaker Brunch at The Nightwood and we are excited to now offer a fun and unique dinner featuring the lovely wines and ciders of Anne Hubatch. This evening brings together some of Portland's top female talent of wine and cuisine.

The Nightwood is a culinary venture offering one-of-a-kind experiences in food. We are a private event space, creative incubator, and home to a rotating series of classes. Even in Portland's groundbreaking food scene, we felt like there was room for something totally new –immersive dining that creates a sense of community through food and design.
The Nightwood is owned and run by an all-women collective, but let's be clear: everyone is welcome! Chef Sarah Schneider
Sarah Schneider got her start in the kitchen as a teen. After finishing culinary school in Portland, Sarah worked in groundbreaking kitchens from Foreign Cinema and Salumeria San Francisco to Marlow & Daughters in New York City. Sarah returned to Portland in 2015, when she took her place in the kitchen at Renata as sous chef and butcher. Sarah's creative energy makes us so excited to have her as our Kitchen Queen.
Helioterra Wines is a small producer of elegant and graceful wines made from exceptional vineyards throughout the Pacific Northwest. Their wines are made from vineyards in Oregon and Washington, selected for their unique geological characteristics, climate, and quality of fruit. Each wine is made in their Southeast Portland winery with minimal intervention, honoring the fruit, the vineyard, and the hard work of the grape growers. They make three pillars of wines: Willamette Valley and single vineyard Pinot noir, aromatic whites, and Rhône variety reds.
At this dinner you'll also try Alter Ego ciders, hard cider produced in small, hand-crafted batches in Portland.
Anne Hubatch - Winemaker, Helioterra Wines; Co-Owner, Alter Ego Cider
In her childhood, Anne Hubatch loved the outdoors and the natural beauty of the heartland. She spent much of her youth taking walks in the woods behind her house or skipping stones on the shores of Lake Michigan. Food and cooking also played a major role in her family life, and with her grandmother’s influence, she developed an interest in wine and flavor combinations.
She pursued her love of the outdoors at the University of Wisconsin, where she earned a degree in Geology and Environmental Studies. She knew then that her career path would lead to a connection with the land.
After college, Hubatch moved to Portland, Oregon and gained hands-on exposure to Oregon’s wine industry, with a decade-long winemaking training with some of Oregon’s best winemakers: Eric Hamacher (Hamacher Wines), David Adelsheim and Dave Paige (Adelsheim Vineyard), Joe Dobbes (Dobbes Family Estate/Wine By Joe), and Alfredo Apolloni (Apolloni Vineyards).
Feeling the entrepreneurial spirit of the Oregon wine industry, Anne introduced her first solo vintage in 2009, and thus began Helioterra Wines. Over the past ten years, she has developed relationships with extraordinary grape growers throughout the Pacific Northwest, creating wines that honor the fruit and the people who grow it, without limiting herself to any particular style or type of wine.
